Glass Casting

Glass Casting is actually Fusing, but your finished project is thick.

Because your project is thick, you need a form to hold the molten glass in place so it will not flow. Molds can be made of any material that can hold up at 1800 degrees F, Metal, Ceramic or Castable Refractories.

Once you have a mold, you need to fill the mold with glass.

There are three basic ways to fill the mold with glass:

  1. Stack pieces or broken sheet glass, bottles or whatever. Remember glass should be the same type.
  2. Fill the mold with Frit which is crushed glass. Use our Bullseye Frit.
  3. Pour molten glass out of a crucible into the mold. See the picture. Click here to see Crucibles. - Click here to see our electric HG6 kiln.

The glass and mold needs to be annealed in an annealing kiln.
